Ans) The pH scale is a measurement which inversely indicates the concentration of hydrogen ions in a
solution. Anything below a pH value of 7 is said to be acidic.

3) What do you think would happen to the aquatic ecosystem if this problem continues to go on?

Ans) Coral reefs provide habitat and food for a large variety of marine life, including various sponges,
oysters, clams, crabs, starfish, sea urchins, and many species of fish. They are among the most biologically
diverse and valuable ecosystems on Earth. An estimated 25 per cent of all marine life, including over 4,000
species of fish, are dependent on coral reefs at some point in their life cycle. If the ocean and coastal
acidification disrupt organisms and food webs, we can expect the ripple effects to result in major changes in
ecosystems. The corals build their hard stony skeletons out of calcium carbonate which they cannot do under
high acidity, and their skeleton can dissolve under this condition. Thus, the effect of increased ocean acidity
on one type of organism can have serious consequences for an entire ecosystem, including people.
