About our Heart

 The Heart is a muscular organ.

 It is present in the chest cavity i.e.

between the lungs

 It is slightly tilted towards left.

 It is not bigger than a clenched fist.

Function of the heart

 It pumps oxygenated blood to other body parts.

 Circulates hormones and other essential substances

to different parts of the body

 Maintains blood pressure.

 Receives deoxygenated blood and send’s it to the

lungs
Structure of the Heart
Structure of the Heart
The hearted is divided into two halves.
The right consists of right auricle and ventricle. The left half consists of left auricle and ventricle.
Auricles are also known as Atria.

The right auricle opens in the right ventricle and left auricle in the left ventricle. There are no valves between the 2
ventricles and 2 auricles. Thus, keeping the blood in the right side and left side separated.

The valves allow blood to flow only in one direction and there is no mixing of oxygenated blood and deoxygenated
blood.

Superior vena cava Carry deoxygenated blood to Right auricle Collects deoxygenated blood
right auricle.(upper body part) and moves it to the heart.
The heart stops functioning
o If our heart stops functioning 1 day. It will be end of life.

o We will lack oxygen- rich blood.

o Our brain will get effected within minutes.

o The brain will not function for more than 6 minutes if the heart stops and eventually dies.
Facts!!!!

Your Heart pumps about 1.5 gallons of blood every minute.

They are 60,000 miles of blood vessels in your body.

The average heartbeat of a woman is about 8 beats a minute faster than

a man’s heartbeat

An adult heart is about the size of 2 hands clasped together.

The most number of heart attacks occur each year on Christmas Day

More heart attacks happen on a Monday than any other day of the week.
