Steps in plotting of equilibrium diagram
1. Prepare large no. of alloys of varying composition of metals A
and B.

2. Plot the cooling curves for all above combinations.


3. Note down liquidus and solidus temperature of these
materials.
Liquidus: L1,L2.L3 ………….L10,L11.
Solidus : S1,S2,S3…………S10,S11.
4. Transfer these temperature, to a Temp.Vs Composition graph
5. Draw smooth curve for point thgrough L1 to L11 and S1 to
S11

Composition
• Overall composition: It is the chemical
composition of each phase in the system

In a system having more than one phase,


• each phase will have a unique chemical
composition which will be different from
each other, and will also be different from
the overall composition.
