▪ Sample size was 10 i.e. 10 students were
interviewed.
▪ A sense of curiosity about the subject was created
when the survey was conducted.
▪ The interviewees pondered upon the various ways
of reducing waste and methods used in their
school to manage waste. They also suggested
different methods the school can adopt as a part
of waste management to reduce waste like
banning the polythene bags in school, no use of

SDG Activity- Goal No 11 sustainable cities and communities &12 -Responsible consumption and production

To ensure sustainable waste services and responsible consumption and

production which includes targets focused on environmentally sound management
of all waste through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.

Research on the Waste Management:

• The waste management can mostly be effectively realized at school as the pupils are
taught of waste management methods.
• The school has communication mode as emails and other social networking sites to
reduce the usage of paper.
• The wet waste collected in school is used as compost for the plants in school.
• The students are curtailed on using non-degradable items like polythene bags and
plastic.
• The school has a cabinet called E-incarnation for the collection of E-waste where the
used electronic gadgets are sent to the organization which works on recycling ee-waste
products.
• The school has planned on working on the Knowledge Waste where the students will
donate their old story books to the libraries near-by and to the needy students.
• The call for action on ‘Waste-Wise Schools’ asks pupils, teaching and non-teaching staff
around to rethink, reduce, recycle, refuse and reuse waste.
awareness activity - waste management at school

school have opted for no paper projects.
• This is an initiative imbibed to reduce paper waste.

recycling factories. This is an initiative taken
to create an awareness among students to do a
bit at school to save earth.

conclusion
• The question ‘how can waste management be realized most effectively in school’ is
occupying the mind of every school personnel because of the rising concern in the
environment. After talking to people from various fields we come to the conclusion that
nature is the best friend of humans and we need to save our Earth from harmful and
toxic products.

• There are various methods executed in school as a part of sustainable development like
‘say no to plastic’, ‘Separate dry waste & wet waste’. ‘Greed to Read from Knowledge
Waste’. There are various NGOs and associations who have come ahead to help save
Earth from the chemical hazard and our school has collaborated with these NGOs.

• The students are well educated by inculcating in them the importance of managing
waste. They use eco-friendly products and software methods like cloud storage, emails
to reduce the use of paper. This has eventually made the students more responsible .
They are taught with various projects held in school like hobby clubs, field trips, tour in
the school and survey methods to learn to realise the importance of 3Rs- Reduce,
Recycle and Reuse.
