Jesus Christ

“In him was life, and that life was the light of men.”1
The love of jesus
• Jesus came to show us the light of God’s great love towards us.
• His was the light that shone with compassion. He did not point an accusing
finger nor did he condemn men and women.
• Instead he made them keenly aware of the love of God that holds them close
and tight in spite of all their sins and failures in life.
• His light guided people to a change of heart and inspired them to move away
from sinful living. He came to set people free from what held them in slavery
and bondage.
Love of god
• But then his light burst forth with great joy when he rose up again alive
from the dead. And he lives forever. And he upholds you each day in
prayer before God and his throne of grace.
The God’s Life
• The Sermon on the Mount forms the basis of Christian behavior and core values,
where Jesus teaches Christians proper conduct and beliefs that are central to
Christianity.
• It was preached on a mount near the north end of the Sea of Galiliee. The sermon
takes place early in the ministry of Jesus around 30 AD, and it happened soon
after Jesus was baptized by John the baptist.
• Today 2000 years later, it is  still one of the most quoted passages in the Bible and
considered by many to be the most outstanding sermon to be delivered by Jesus.
• It was probably on Tuesday of the last week of His life that Jesus climbed the Mount of
Olives after leaving Jerusalem. He had spent His day teaching at the temple. As the sun
began to sink toward the western horizon at day’s end, Jesus paused high on the slope
of the mountain with four of His apostles. They had evidently exited the city by leaving
directly from the temple grounds through the so-called Golden Gate, which pierced the
eastern wall. They then descended into the Kidron Valley before beginning their
ascent.1 The Gospel of Mark names the apostles who were with Jesus. They were the
two pairs of brothers from Galilee: Peter and Andrew, James and John. Thus Jesus
spoke the words of His sermon in the presence of the most trustworthy witnesses of
that age. I wish to emphasize that this point is not minor. This discourse, detailed in
Matthew 24, was to be one of the most significant of Jesus’ mortal ministry.
