URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS

• A urinary traction infection (UTI) is a very common type of infection in your urinary system. A UTI can
involve any part of your urinary system, including the urethra, ureters, bladder and kidneys.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF URINARY TRACT INFECTION (UTI)

• Bacteria can reach the kidneys from the lower urinary tract (ascending infection) or through the
bloodstream (hematogenous infection)

• Hematogenous spread usually occurs as a result of bacteremia. Any systemic infection can
lead to seeding of the kidney
