Limited
ITC was incorporated on August 24th, 1910, under the
name Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited. As the
Company’s ownership progressively Indianised, the name of the
Company was changed to India Tobacco Company Limited in
1970 and then to I.T.C. Limited in 1974.
In recognition of the Company’s multi-business portfolio
encompassing a wide range of businesses – Fast Moving
Consumer Goods comprising Foods, Personal Care, Cigarettes
and Cigars, Branded Apparel, Education and Stationery
Products, Incense Sticks and Safety Matches, Hotels,
Paperboards & Specialty Papers, Packaging, Agri-Business and
Information Technology.
The Company now stands rechristened ITC Limited.

ITC’s journey, over a century, has indeed been one of extraordinary


transformation – from a small outpost of an overseas-owned company
with a single product to one of India’s most valuable and admired multi-
dimensional and multi-business enterprises. Only a handful of
enterprises in the world have traversed a 100-year journey and
managed to remain contemporary, relevant and competitive.
ITC is one such enterprise. In the last four decades, ITC’s topline grew
from Rs 145 crore in 1970 to over Rs 48,000 crore (Rs 480 billion) in
2014, profit after tax soared from Rs 4 crore (Rs 40 million) to cross Rs
8,700 crore (Rs 87 billion) and market capitalization catapulted from
around Rs 35 crore (Rs 350 million) to more than Rs 2,75,000 crore (Rs
2,750 billion).

Because CSR of ITC Ltd ranked number one
in CSR for consecutive second year in the
category most active csr The core objective of
ITC CSR initiative is to secure the livelihood
of these marginalised communities not just for
today but for future purpose too.
CSR Activities of ITC Limited
ITC has been doing impactful CSR activity in
India for years. Now ITC has educated about
252329 children through its 2334 supplementary
learning centers.
They have also supported empowers about 15378
women members through 1183 self help groups.
Generating livelihood and
Environmental Capital
- Create sustainable live hoods and alleviate poverty through promotion of,
inter alia, afforestation, water stewardship, sustainable agriculture and
climate smart practices, livestock development and women empowerment.
- Build capabilities for tomorrow through interventions in, inter alia,
education, vocational training, sanitation, school WASH (Water, Sanitation &
Hygiene) safe drinking water and solid waste management.
- Promote healthcare, including preventive healthcare and improve critical
nutritional & health status of at-risk population through interventions to
strengthen mode & child health, nutritional content, delivery, outreach and
outcomes.
- Protect national heritage, art & culture and preserving & promoting music
and sports and
- Provide relief and assistance to victims of disasters and calamities.
The Company Aims
•To develop the required capability and self-reliance of beneficiaries at the grass
roots, especially of women, in the belief that these are pre-requisites for social and
economic development;
•To engage in affirmative action interventions such as skill building and vocational
training;
•To pursue CSR Programes primarily in areas that fall within the economic vicinity
of the Company's operations to enable close supervision and ensure maximum
developmental impact;
•To enter into public-private-people partnerships to multiply the impact of the CSR
Programes;
•To carry out CSR Programes in relevant local areas to fulfil commitments arising
from requests by government / regulatory authorities;
•To provide equal opportunities to beneficiaries of the CSR Programes;
•To promote sustainability in partnership with industry associations, like the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) through the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for
Sustainable Development.
