DAY 6 – Nov. 7, 2020

OBJECTIVE

Draw / sketch a facial feature

(EYE)
Quote for the day
Sketching is a continuing source
of learning rather than a string
of performance.

-Paul Laseau-
SKETCHING
Main Lesson
Why Sketching?
• It explores ideas.
• Drawings are mental tools.
• Express concept, volume, and
inspiration.
Types of Sketches
• Croquis
• Pochade
• Portrait Sketch
Croquis
A croquis was intended to remind the
artist of some person or scene he wished
to remember in a more permanent form -
they were not necessarily for a finished
product. Today fashion designers use the
term croquis to indicate a quick sketch
of a live model.

Pochade
Artists use color to record a scene's
atmospheric effect and to capture the
fleeting effect of light for a planned
landscape painting. Where croquis is a
quick sketch using lines to record an
event or person, pochade is a quick color
sketch to capture atmosphere.

Portrait Sketch
This is used in portrait art to record
moments where a person's character is
momentarily revealed, a mischievous
twinkle in the eye or a sour smile.
Sketching was also used to draw the
sitter from different angles before
deciding which angle was best for the
main project.

How to Draw an Eye
Step by Step
Step 1
Draw the basic
almond-shaped outline
of the eye.
Step 2
Draw the inner circle
of the eye.
Step 3
Draw the highlight
first, then the pupil
under it. Make sure the
pupil is in the center of
the circle.
Step 4
Shade the pupil
Step 5
Draw the crease of the
upper eyelid, and the
bottom one too.
Step 6
Draw a few eyelashes
to show where you
will later draw in
larger clumps of
lashes. Kind like a
basic outline.
Step 7
Darken the inner circle
in the eye, the outline
of the eye, and draw a
line in the inner corner
(as showed in the
picture)
Step 8
Start filling in some
more lashes, and add
some lines inside the
inner circle of the eye.
Step 9
Fill in some more lines
lightly inside the circle
Step 10
Add even more lines!
But this time use the
darker pencil to make
darker lines.
Step 11
shade in the inside
outer edge of the inner
circle of the eye. Use
the darker pencil. This
will add a lot of depth
and roundness to the
eye.
Step 12
Add some more lines
(depending on the
lightness of the color
of the eye) to make it a
little darker in some
areas.
Step 13
Now, fill in the lashes
with your darker
pencil. If drawing a
male eye, make the
lashes a little lighter
than if drawing a
female eye. In this
instance, I am drawing
a female eye.
Step 14
Shade inside the eye,
and it helps to smudge
it with your finger tip
or a tortillon.
Step 15
Shade the corners of
the eye, and the
eyelids.
