Present perfect vs.

simple
past
comparison
We use the simple past when the action started in the past, finished in
the past, and is not continuing now.
• The sun rose at 6:00 am
• She lived in Paris for a year.

And we use the present perfect when the action started in the past and
is continuing now.
• The sun has risen.
• She has lived in Paris for a year.
