Rómában a többszintes és többlakásos

mint a 19. század végén. Még abban is
rokonságot mutatnak, hogy a földszinten és
esetleg a félemeleten üzletek, raktárak
sorakoztak, míg a függőfolyosós felső
szinteken lakásokat találunk.

Previously built on three or four floors, the house was probably 18 metres high.
It was built around 130-140 A.D. and it represents the typical insulae (block of
buildings with one or more floors), it consists in several apartments which the
owner used to rent.
On the inside we can see, at different heights, various floor levels of II, III, IV
and V centuries. There are also taverns on the ground floor: these weren’t just
stores like we consider them today; in most cases, artisan laboratories used to
combine production with sale.

Kör alaprajzú építmény, melybe egy ión porticuszon keresztül lehet megközelíteni.
Belsejében kör alaprajzú csatorna, kis szigetet övez, amelyen miniatűr villa áll.
Félköríves vesztibulumon át jutunk a konkáv ívekkel határolt perisztíliumba, közepén
szökőkút áll. A perisztíliumhoz kis szobák kapcsolódnak, fürdője apodyteriumból,
frigidariumból, calidariumból és latrinából áll.

Piazza d’Oro
The vestibule gave onto a great Peristyle (61m x 51m) surrounded by a portico with two
naves and alternating columns of marble and green Egyptian granite; the back wall of
the portico is made of arches on pilasters with half columns. The walls were originally
covered with plaster. On the outside of the portico along the east and west sides run two
crypto-porticos; in the central area of the Peristyle is a long pool running down the axis,
on the sides of which were gardens. On the southern side is a complex of buildings
including a central courtyard (perhaps a summer triclinium) with an octagonal plan and
curved sides, alternating between convex and concave, each supported by two columns.
On the back side is a great semicircular nymphaeum with rectangular and semicircular
niches occupied by fountains; on the shorter sides are nymphaeums and courtyards.
