 Process Flow
1. Procurement of Coconut- we procure matured coconuts with high yield from the farmers.
2. Separation of nuts from the shell- manually broken dehusked coconuts are sun dried for a day and
nuts are separated manually on the next day
3. Copra making-To achieve the requisite moisture content, extracted copra is sun dried for more than
three days.
4. Reheating in dryer-To keep the proper moisture level, the copra is reheated in a dryer before being
chopped into pieces.
5. Chopping of copra into pieces-Copra is mechanically cut into pieces using a cutter powered by an
electric motor.
6. Roasting in cooker- For about 45 minutes, the diced pieces are roasted in a steaming cooker.
7. Crushing in expeller- In an oil expeller, chopped and roasted copra is crushed twice.
8. Separation of cake particles-The cake fragments in the extracted oil are mechanically separated us-
ing a vibrator.
9. Double Filtration- To obtain the best quality, the extracted pure coconut oil is filtered twice using
different filters.
10. Storage in tanks- In closed tanks, the filtered, pure coconut oil is kept until it is time to ship.
11. Packing-Bottles, cans, tins, and multi-layered films are used for packing.

The sapal is broken down along with other agricultural waste, and enzymes or other decompos-
ition aids are added to create compost or organic fertilizer.

2. High Quality animal feed ingredient, coconut flour or another type of VCO
The PCA discovered the method for making coconut flour and white coconut oil from sapal,
and a coconut milk processing company in Davao City, Philippines, commercially adopted the tech-
nology in 2002.

3. Can be an ingredient and extender for various home recipes to enhance nutritional value of
food.
Residue (sapal) is used as an ingredient and extender in a variety of home recipes to boost the
food's nutritional value, generate extra revenue, and promote the health of those who consume sapal
on a regular basis. Sapal is a spice that is added to recipes to give food products the dietary fiber and
fat they need to be healthy.
Environmental Impact
Coconut production utilizes harmful chemical fertilizers.

Many coconut farmers practice "monocropping," or producing only one crop on the same land year
after year, to maximize the profitability of their farm. The issue is that over time, this approach de-
pletes the soil of minerals, forcing farmers to utilize chemical fertilizers that are bad for the envir-
onment.

Deforestation
Deforestation is the biggest concern with regard to coconut oil's environmental effects. The palm
tree, which is also cultivated in the same tropical location as coconut trees, is frequently used as a
comparison for both. Despite being mostly produced on mixed-use plantations, coconut trees aren't
linked to as much deforestation as palm oil trees.

Carbon Dioxide Emission

Its long-term high demand has resulted in deforestation, which puts already endangered species at
risk and affects the atmosphere by releasing millions of tons of carbon dioxide during production,
raising serious concerns about climate change.

Main Factors that influence the quality of coconut oil:

1.Age of the coconuts

Age is actually a major element because new or old coconuts cannot generate a good
amount of high-quality coconut oil. Finding mature coconuts is a crucial first step. Twelve-
month-old coconuts are deemed suitable for oil extraction. These nuts can be used to make oil,
which has a high Lauric acid concentration.

2. Types/ varieties of coconut:

Coconuts have three classification:
a. Tall variety A- have the longest life span
b. Dwarf variety A- bears flowers early than tall variety
c. Hybrid/Genetically modified- efficient in bearing flowers and nuts but it’s
quality of oil is not recommended and good for health.
