WHAT IS ICT?
• ICT, or Information and Communications Technology(or
technologies), is defined as a diverse set of technological
tools and resources used to transmit, store, create, share
or exchange information.
• ICT denotes about all technology innovations that was
centered to maximize the potential use of
telecommunication systems with all its various forms.
WHAT IS ADVOCACY?

Advocacy is a process of supporting and enabling

people to:
• Express their views and concerns
• Access information and services
• Defend and promote their rights and responsibilities

Human Development & Country
• Defined as the new social morphology of our society.
• Internationally, the spread and appropriation of ICT’s has been a
key dimension of globalization, urging societies to build
communications systems, manage them well; develop
infrastructure and capacity to use it; and implement good policy
and regulation.
• Distant Learning
• Have great learning potential in rural areas where
resources such as books and libraries are scarce but ICT
infrastructure is present.
Empowerment & Participation
• ICT’s can help improve empowerment and participation
in policy debates by creating linkages to government
processes to maintain government transparency in turn
developing of the citizens and promoting the use of ICT.
In Maritime Industry
• Ships in all its forms had been able to communicate
and provide efficient signaling on each other to
promote a safe navigation schemes both afloat and
ashore and in any conditions.
• Ships had been provided with VHF radio or what we
call Very High Frequency radio to communicate with
diverse levels.

• ICT develops the way we communicate, the way
we engages stakeholders and policy makers,
establishes conducive environments, assesses risks
and opportunities, and promotes information
exchanges to bring about positive social change.
HOW ICT TOOLS AND PLATFORMS HAVE
CHANGED THE WAY PEOPLE COMMUNICATE?

• Many of the advantages of ICT in communication is that people

may now send media/media text messages to different people all
around the world at any given time, this also means that your
information and data is now more reliable than our conventional
letters due to how fast these messages are sent and received.
However having this new method of communicating creates a gap
between people. We lose normal human interaction, this makes
people unused to the outside world due to their dependency to this
especially to the teenagers today.
HOW SOCIAL CHANGE HAS BEEN
BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE USE OF ICT’S?
• Social change, in Sociology, the alteration of mechanisms
within the social structure, characterized by changes in
cultural symbols, rules of behavior, social organizations,
or value systems. Sustainable social change and
development involves the use of variety of
communication techniques to address inefficient systems,
processes, and etc. Nowadays, people can’t live without
technologies.
ICT had given a huge contribution in our social concerns. People
learn how to be united and to fight what they believe in. In
expressing arguments about a social issue, it brings people
together to fight for their own stand. They promote or show their
right to express what they truly believe in. ICT helps individuals
become independent and aware of the different events in our
society. It enables most of the people to participate and react also
on what others say about the topic. ICT also helps the
communication process become faster due to the different
applications and social media sites that enables individuals to
interact and communicate easily.
ICT AS MEDIUM FOR ADVOCACY AND
DEVELOPMENTAL COMMUNICATION
ICT can be used as a medium in promoting different advocacies and
causes mainly because it is effortless and it does not need any
exceeded effort to perform. ICT makes our work easier therefore, it
can also make the other things we do easier including promoting
causes. The old method of posting flyers and tarpaulins have been a
hassle for advocacy groups and ICT has changed all of that.
Because of ICT, we have the access to technology which can do that
work in less time and can make a bigger difference than the old way
of promotion.
