BACKGROUND
INFORMATION

• Recently, the CDC authorized

Pfizer-BioNTech covid vaccines
for children ages 5-11.

• Up until now, the vaccine had

only been authorized for ages 12
and up. Meanwhile, they
continued to test and improve the
vaccine for children.

• The vaccine is being

recommended to around 28
million children in the U.S.
COMPARISON OF VACCINES FOR
ADULTS/TEENS VS VACCINES FOR

SIMILARITIES
• The contents in the vaccine remain
the same for both.
• The vaccine for children will have the
same 2-dosage schedule with 3 weeks
apart, just like the vaccine for adults.
DIFFERENCES
• The key difference in the vaccine for children is
the dosage size. The vaccine for adults/teens
contain 30 micrograms of RNA, while the
vaccine for children contain 10 micrograms,
being 1/3 of the size. The smaller dosage will
minimize the side effects from the shot, while
still providing strong immunity.

CONCLUSIONS
• The vaccine was studied in around 3,100
children ages 5-11who received the shot,
and no major side effects were detected.
• According to Pfizer, the vaccine for children
proved to be 90.7% effective preventing
COVID-19 in children ages 5-11.
• Fever was less common in children, with
6.5% of children experiencing fever in the
clinical trial compared to 17.2% in
adults/teens.
COMMON CONCERNS

•Myocarditis and Pericarditis

•Developing myocarditis or pericarditis after vaccination is very rare. During a recent study, the risk of either was around 54
cases per million doses administered.
•Allergic Reactions
•Allergic reactions can happen after receiving any vaccine, and it is also rare. Speaking with a health care provider about this
concern can minimize the chance of occurrence.
•Getting Covid From The Vaccine
•You cannot get sick with COVID-19 from any COVID-19 vaccine.
•Fertility Problems
•There is currently no substantial evidence that the COVID-19 vaccines cause fertility problems.
REASONS FOR
VACCINATION
• Even though kids are at lower risk of
becoming severely ill, they can still
be infected with the virus.
• Children can experience both short
term and long-term health
complications from COVID-19 if not
treated.
• Children can easily spread COVID-
19 to others.
• Children have been relying on masks
and social distancing as their only
form of protection against the virus.
• The benefits outweigh the risks.
