The

Perpetuation of
Life
TWO TYPES OF REPRODUCTION
IN PLANTS
SEXUAL
REPRODUCTION
Takes place when the
gametes, or the male and
female sex cells of
plants, unite to form a
single cell called zygote.
PARTS OF THE
FLOWER
PETALS
Are the flowers brightly
colored parts that play an
important role of attracting
bees, birds, butterflies and
other animals that aid in
transporting pollen grains to
different places as they moved
around.
RECEPTACLE
Part of the plant unto which
flower is attached
SEPALS
Are the leaflike parts that
enclose and protect the flower
bud before it blooms.
THE MALE
REPRODUCTIVE
PARTS OF A FLOWER
STAMEN
Is made up of the anther and
filament
FILAMENT
Stalk that supports the anther
ANTHER
Where pollen is produced.
POLLEN
Are tiny grains containing the
sperm that is necessary for
sexual reproduction
THE FEMALE
REPRODUCTIVE
PARTS OF A FLOWER
CARPEL/PISTIL
Made up of the stigma, style,
and ovary.
STIGMA
Sticky part that catches the
pollen grains coming from the
stamen
STYLE
Long tubelike part that
connects the stigma to the
ovary.
OVARY
Contains the ovule or
unfertilized egg. When the
ovule is fertilized, it can
develop into a fruit.
POLLINATION

The transfer of the pollen

from the anther to the
stigma of the same plant.
This type of transfer is
called self-pollination.
Pollen from anther of one
plant may also be
transferred to the stigma
of another plant, and this
process is called cross
pollination.
FERTILIZATION

Process by which the

sperm and egg cells
unite, and this takes place
after pollination.
ASEXUAL
REPRODUCTION
VEGETATIVE
PROPAGATION
Wherein a new plant can
grow from a vegetative
part taken from the
parent plant.

examples: camote,
potatoes, onions,
katakataka
RHIZOME

A stem that grows

horizontally under the
ground

Examples: ginger and

grasses
RUNNER/STOLON

Also grows in a
horizontal direction.
However, a runner grows
above the ground.
Example: strawberry
