Rizal did not retract

 No original document found. Several historians report
that Rizal retracted through a retraction paper which
stated.
 The original document was never shown to the public
and only reproductions and imitation were published
on newspapers.
 Surfaced to the public on May 13, 1935 was found by Fr.
Manuel A. Gracia at the Catholic Hierarchy’s Archives
in Manila.
 Was said to be a replica and not the original copy
“ I retract with all of
my heart whatever in
my words, writings,
publications and
conduct have been
contrary to my
character as a son of
the Catholic church”
Evidence and Arguments that
Rizal did not retract

 There is no certificate
of Rizal’s Catholic
marriage to Josephine
Bracken
 The retraction
established the act of
marriage between
Rizal and Bracken as it
was the condition for
them to be wedded
 No masses were said for his soul or funeral that
was held for Catholics.
 On December 30, 1896, after the execution,
Rizal’s body was brought to San Juan de Dios
Hospital and his remains were buried the same
day in the Paco cemetery in an unmarked grave.
 Forge Document-Rizal’s family requested for the
original copy.
 Documents presented were forgery
His beliefs and personality

Rizal did not retract, it would run counter to
everything he believed about the church
It would not be in line with his beliefs and
personality
Mature enough to realizes the consequences
Unlikely a behavior showing a threat from
death.
Rizal did not live in the Parish Convent

Letter from Fr. Pablo Pastells to Fr. Obach

Rizal preferred to live in the house of

Commandant Captain Carnicero –
mentioned in the book by Libert Acibo and
Estela Gadiciano - Adanza
Witness - Baron Fernandez

secret archives in Madrid and Segovia

 Rizal’s Defense
Wrote to his sister

Before Rizal's death he wrote to his sister
Narcisa to look inside his shoes
Inside is a letter that contains his denial of
the retraction
Evidence to complete all the
statements

Rizal was EXECUTED. If he retracted, he
would not have been executed
Importance of the Report

So why is the retraction of Rizal being debated?
What is its importance? And Why is it such a
big deal t the Catholic region?
Rizal was a Mason. Freemasonry is the
opposition of the Catholic religion. If
freemasonry spreads, then the church will be
relegated to the sidelines.
