ARCHITECTURAL RELATIONSHIP

WITH THE ENVIRONMENT

 Architecture is not all about the aesthetic view of a building. It is also related and has a big
role with the environment.

Architects also need to design a building that is not only identifies the need of the people but
also its impact to the environment.

Architecture and Environmental Studies are natural companions. It is impossible to design

good buildings without understanding their relationship to natural systems. It is also impossible to
understand the natural environment without knowing how human intervention affects it – both
positively and negatively.
So, we need to consider:
• Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources.
• Protecting resident’s health and improving people’s
productivity.
• Reducing waste, pollution, and environmental degradation.
 Architects need to make buildings that are friendly to the
environment and more green which can be adaptable to the
surroundings, in other words, they need to create buildings
that are energy efficient, like green buildings or sustainable
buildings which are designed to reduce the overall impact of
the built environment on human health and nature.
Climate responsive architecture takes into
consideration seasonality, the direction of
the sun (sun path and solar position),
natural shade provided by the surrounding
topography, environmental factors (such as
wind, rainfall, humidity) and climate data
(temperature, historical weather patterns,
etc.) to design comfortable and energy-
efficient homes.
