“PHYSICAL + EDUCATION”
The term “physical” refers to the motor
abilities and the physical development of
the body whereas the term “education”
refers to the training and guidance
provided to the learner.

❖ The objective of physical development deals with the program of activities that
builds physical power in an individual through the development of the body.
❖ To develop motor skills like strength, endurance, flexibility, balance,coordination
etc for good performance in sports.
❖ refers to the advancements and refinements of motor skills, or, in other words,
children's abilities to use and control their bodies.
4. Emotional Development
❖ Being responsible for developing/ controlling various emotions like fear, hope, wonder and
anger.
❖ Individuals starts having control over his/her emotions when participating in physical activities.
❖ Character traits in a game.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
3. Biological Content
Physical education provides a scope for an understanding of
the biological aspects of the human body.
It is also related with motor abilities & skills, it is
connected with biological content such as:
a) Functioning of the human body systems like
digestive system, muscular system, respiratory system etc. that
enable physical activities.
b) Pattern of human growth and development

2 KINDS OF MOVEMENTS
1. Locomotor Movements
2. Non-locomotor Movements
LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS
WALKING
• shifting one’s weight from one foot to the other
RUNNING
• moving with longer strides and in faster speed than
walking
HOPPING
• springing on one foot and landing on the same foot
SKIPPING
• done with a step and a hop using the same foot
JUMPING
• springing on one foot or both feet and landing on
both feet
LEAPING
• springing on one foot and landing on the other foot
SLIDING
• done by gliding on the floor, sideward or
forward using the right and left foot
alternately
GALLOPING
• stepping on one foot and cutting the other
foot, either sideward or forward.
NON-LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS
BENDING
• movement that causes the formation of the
body to curve
STRETCHING
• done by straightening or extending any part of
the body from the joints or limbs
LIFTING
• elevating a part of the body, usually the arms &
legs
TURNING
• partial or full rotation of the body while shifting the
base of support
TWISTING
• moving a part of the body around a long axis,
usually for the head and body
