 Scanningis a fast reading technique to be used
when you want to find specific information
quickly within a text.

Purpose of scanning
 To refresh what you have read.
 To get the important things we need without
reading a whole.
 To identify the topic reading.
 To find out people opinion.
Steps of scanning
 To scan you have a question in your mind.
 To scan you must train your eyes to move quickly
over passage.
 Look for key words or words that are repeated.
 Look for highlighted words i.e. bold or italic.
 Look for numbers i.e. dates.
Advantages
 In scanning, you don’t read the text word to word.
You skip over unimportant words so that you can
read faster.
 In scanning, you don’t start from the beginning
and read to the end. Instead what you do is to jump
around in the text and found the specific
information you need.It saves time.
Disadvantages of scanning:
 Scanning does not tell all details.
 Scanning means reading quickly, in this case
sometimes the students ignore the important
information.
