understanding on the concepts of the steps/procedures in cartoon
character making using new technologies. We encourage you to do the
activities diligently.
Going through this module, you are expected to apply concepts on the
steps/procedures in cartoon character making. (A6PR-If) and utilizes art
skills in using new technologies (hardware and software) in cartoon
character making. (A6PR-Ig)

What is It
A cartoon is a single panel image usually used to convey an idea.
Cartoon is a form of visual communication that become popular
with the invention of modern newspaper and motion picture in the
20th century. Newspapers and movies used modern cartoon to
attract viewer.
The earliest civilization showed the account how cartoon were
instrumental in expressing their form of communication. Cartoon is
as old as our civilization. Cave dwellers of the prehistoric era took
the proof for it.
Cartoonist as they call it, is any individual who do the art of
cartooning and dug deeply into how we communicate visually
today. He use a variety of effects – funny and amusing, sharp and
biting, or subtle and slippery - for various genres or type of
cartoons.
Three most popular cartoon in the field are:
1. Editorial Cartoon – An editorial cartoon is a one-panel or stand-alone comics in which the
main intent is to present an opinion. An editorial cartoon does not, however, just present opinion. It
uses biting wit, caricature, and subtle humor to drive home its point.

2. Strip Cartoon – comic strip is a series of little drawing arranged box by box, some or all or
which may contain dialogue.

3. Caricature – Cartoon often model their characters from famous people, often drawn in
an unkind way, which exaggerates certain things about them are called caricature.

Try drawing your own caricature. Choose anyone who likes to have
fun. Ask SEP yourself
