farming for the students
To motivate students to become a
successful entrepreneur
To produce farm fresh chicken for the
society
Scope
Broiler farming in India is in boom because of its
increasing demand among the people
Faster returns than any other livestock farming
Integrated broiler farming with any other farming
will boost up the profit
Adopting better management practices will increase
the production and also leads to high profit
Plan of work
Care and management of broilers was done everyday
Work schedule

• Recording temperature of the shed

• Ensuring all chicks are healthy
• Feeding
• Watering
• Vaccination
• Replacement of litter material

Daily Routine Operations

 Newspaper was changed on alternate days and

totally removed on 6th day

 The chicks are let into the litter from 6th day
onwards

 Brooder guard was removed on 10th day

 The litter material was spread evenly all over the

shed in order to allow the chicks move freely
Watering
Groviplex – Nutrient mixture (10 ml / 5L) 4 times/Day
Glucose – Prevent Dehydration (1 tsp. /5 L)

Cephalexin – Antibiotic (5 gm / 5 L) for first 5 days and last 5 days

before marketing to prevent infection

Glucose Cephalexin
Groviplex
Feeding Schedule

Each bird will consume 3.5 kg feed to attain 2 kg body

weight in 6 weeks.
Three types of feed was used for feeding and are as follows

 Pre – starter feed - 500 gms/ bird ( day old to 15 days)

 Started feed - 1 kg/ bird (from 16 days to 25 days)
 Finisher feed - 2 kg/ bird (from 26 days to 42 days)
Weighing of feed

Circular feeder
Vaccination Schedule

 In poultry industry more emphasis is given on

prevention and control of diseases rather than curative
measures

 Hence vaccination against certain diseases is must.

New Castle and IBD are the most common diseases

affecting broilers which causes severe mortality in birds.
Common routes of vaccination

Financial analysis
 To find whether the firm is profitable or not , it is always necessary to
workout the financial analysis
 All the necessary inputs such as poultry shed, equipment’s etc., was
provided by the institution and hence there is no fixed investment
Cost
Chicks cost @ Rs. 36/ chick (35×400) = Rs. 14,400.00

Feed cost @ Rs. 27/ kg (27×3.5×400) = Rs. 37,800.00

Cost of medicines, vaccines = Rs. 2,000.00

@ Rs. 5/ bird (5×400)

Miscellaneous cost @ Rs. 6/ bird (6× 400)= Rs. 2,400.00

Total cost = Rs. 56,600.00

Returns
Sale of slaughtered birds = Rs. 71,260.00
@ Rs. 140/ kg (140×509)

Total returns = Rs. 71,260.00

Net Returns/Profit = Total returns – Total cost

= Rs. 71,260.00 – 56,600.00

= Rs. 14,660/-
Final output obtained
Average live weight obtained = 2.0 Kg / bird
Mortality (0.25 %) = 1 bird
Total live weight obtained = 798 Kg
Total dressed meat (Skin out) = 509 Kg

Total profit = Rs. 14,660

BCR = 1.25
