INTERNSHIP REPORT
ERA is one of the organizations under the
Ministry of Works and Urban
Development and accountable to the
Board, is responsible for planning and
formulating long and short-term plans
and programs for road construction,
design, maintenance of trunk and major
link roads, as well as for administration
of contracts.
1.2 VISION OF ECWC

“To take the leading position in Africa and to be globally competitive construction
company”

1.3 MISSION OF ECWC To satisfy the customers and stakeholders of the

Corporation by delivering Roads and bridges construction, rehabilitation,

upgrading and maintenance, Construction equipment and machineries
maintenance and lease, Construction materials production and sales,
Services timely, with competitive price and environmentally friendly
manner.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
UNDER EQUIPMENT ADMINISTRATION AND MANTIANANCE
SHASHEMENE ERA WORKSHOPS

This company has seven workshops, but as I had only three months
internship time. Due to I worked on the Mechanical shop because of
many works had done on that shop. I also roughly watched the other
shops. Some of These are mentioned below.
• Mechanical shop
• Machine shop
• Welding shop
• Electrical shop
• Body shop
• Equipment store shop and
• Tire repairing shop

OVERAL INTERNSHIOP EXPERIENCE
All benefits gained from the internship
1Theoretical knowledge
Grasp deep knowledge on automotive technology in design, manufacturing and maintenance
also in assembling.
Differentiate types of automotive and companies with their marks
2 Practical skills
The objective of this internship is to fill the gaps between theoretical knowledge and practical
skills of students. As an engineering fourth year student, in my entire academic life I could
introduce myself for basic principles, laws, equations and formulae’s of science and
engineering. Therefore through this time most lectures where theory but during the internship I
able to:-
Integrate theoretical knowledge into practice. For instance
 Fuel system
 Braking system
 Lubrication system
 Cooling system
 Steering system
 Ignition system
 Injection system
Skills in general service shop
 Disassembling of wheels and the components around it
 Repairing brake pad
 Repairing shock absorber
 How to identify the failed components of the vehicle
Entrepreneurship skills
An Entrepreneur One who creates a new business in the face of risk and uncertainty for the purpose of
achieving profit and growth by identifying opportunities and assembling the necessary resources to
capitalize on them
Team playing skills
 During internship program we form a group and launch a project. The project was to maintain and
which is designed for Engine holding machine. This time all the member was participant and the team
spirit was strong.
 All we learn how to form group and how to make our self-active in any action.
The team playing skill was also with senior and junior mechanics of the company. During maintenance
time I follow their order and assistance.
Interpersonal communication skills
During team work Communication is important especially in a place like maintenance workshop.
In this perspective I develop my interpersonal communication skill through each step during internship.
Leadership skills
One person should have the leadership personality in once carrier. As an engineering student
I try to grow and develop this sprit from well experienced technicians and mechanics. During
my internship time I try to learn this skill not only theoretically but in practice I lead some of
my friends and with collaboration of chef Mechanic abebe to maintain and modify some engine
parts.
PART TWO
INTERNSHIP PROJECT
TITTEL
Project
Engine holding and lifting device
Statement of problem
 I am entitled to do this project when I see the impossibility
to rise and lower or lift engine. This lifting device is used
to rise engine those weight is less than 900kg
 When I use a device that used to lift engine, there are so
many problems. Such as: -
 Need so many man power
 Creates uncomfortable working condition
 Lack of safety
 Reduce factory income
 Waste so many time
 When lifting it can cause backache problem
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Ø To design engine holding and lifting device.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
Ø The objective of this work is to design a device that is reliable; efficient cost effective and
safe in order to minimize and eliminate the risks involved during engine maintenance.
Ø To make easy and flexible working condition.
Ø To increase our ability on the machine design to solving the problem
Ø To save time
Ø To design parts of engine holding and lifting device
METHODOLOGY
Description of the Proposed Model
 The proposed design is made up of several separate components put together to form a linked
mechanism.
 It has a support plate on which the Engine will rest.
 There are also the links, joined together by pins to the brackets.
 This mechanism makes the up and down movement of the support plate possible when the power
screw connecting the two brackets is turned either clockwise or counterclockwise.
 The device also has a base in the form of a board with wheels to make easy the drawing and pushing
of the device with the Engine on it.
 . A motor is used to turn the power screw by means of a gear.
 There are two gears with different size. The larger gear is mounted on the power screw and the
smaller gear is attached with the shaft of motor.
 The two spur gears are mesh together in such a way that the smaller gear drive by motor is used to
drive the larger gear mounted on the power screw the gear mechanism which is included in our
design used for speed Reduction purpose.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION OF THE PROPOSED DESIGN
This design operates on the same principle on which a bolt and a nut operates in that when a bolt rotates in
a nut, it changes rotational angular motion to linear motion to transmit power or to develop large forces. In
this design, only one of the two brackets has its hole threaded. The other one has a smoothed hole. The
portion of the power screw that is through this hole is also smoothened to facilitate its rotational
movement in the hole. During operation, the operator presses the start button to start the motor which has
a gear that is in mesh with another gear mounted on the power screw.
