WIND POWER ENERGY💨

AND ITS APPLICATIONS

 WHAT IS WIND ENERGY ?

 Wind is a type of kinetic energy that is generated from air currents and

that can be transformed into electricity through an electric generator .

 It is a renewable energy source that is inexhaustible and non-polluting .

 Wind energy has been used for thousands of years, whether it was to
propel sailboats or to spin the blades on a wind mill .
TYPES OF WIND ENERGIES

 ON SHORE :-
on shore winds are the one that blows from the sea towards the land .

OFF SHORE :-
off shore winds are the one that blows from the land towards sea.
 APPLICATIONS OF WIND ENERGY

Sailing boats
Pumping water
Generating electricity
Milling of grains
 SAIL BOATS
A sailboat is a relatively small boat that uses wind power to
propel it forward. When the wind is strong
enough, sailboats can move very quickly.
• The sailboat extracts energy from the wind by slowing the
wind's speed relative to the water. It uses that energy to
overcome drag and to accelerate the boat.
• About the best angle off the wind that most sailboats can achieve is 30 degrees.
Any less than this and the wing shape of the sail begins to deflate.
 PUMPING WATER

The rotor is coupled with a reciprocating pump of 50–

150 mm diameter through a connecting rod. Such
windmills start lifting water when wind speed
approaches 8–10 kilometres (km) per hour.
200 BC Greek inventor and mathematician Ctesibius
invents the water organ, an air pump with valves on the
bottom, a tank of water in between them and a row of
pipes on top.
 GENERATING ELECTRICITY

A wind turbine is a device that converts the kinetic energy of wind into

electrical energy.

 Hundreds of thousands of large turbines, in installations known as wind

farms, now generate over 650 gigawatts of power, with 60 GW added each

year.

Modern wind turbines are complex machines with three main subsystems.

These are the rotor and its blades, the nacelle and the tower.
 MILLING OF GRAINS

A windmill is defined as a machine that converts the kinetic energy of the

wind into mechanical energy. All the blades of windmill always rotate in a
clockwise direction. The first windmill was designed in the year 1854 by
Daniel Halladay from the United States.
Following are the components of windmill:
Blades: These are the essential component of the windmill, and they control
the functioning of rotor speed.
Rotor: Rotor is also known as a propeller.
Anemometer: This component is used for measuring the wind speed.
Tower: This is the support system holding the blades and propeller together.
 WIND POWER AROUND THE WORLD

What country uses the most wind energy 2022?

Wind power's total cumulative installed electricity generation capacity has increased rapidly since 2000.
