SEMICONDUCTORS
Range of
Conduciveness
In insulators, the valence band is full. Also in insulators, the energy gap is
relatively large.
Semiconductors
In the n-type region there are extra electrons and in the p-type region,
there are holes from the acceptor impurities .
Diode
A diode allows current to flow in one direction but not the other.
Rectifiers
The most popular application of the diode. Most electronics need a direct
current to function, but the standard form of electricity that is transmitted
to homes is alternating current.
Diode as Rectifier
Rectifiers are needed to change the alternating current into direct current
inside the electronics so that they can function correctly.
Half-Wave Rectifiers
Two PN Junction Diodes are used to make this rectifier circuit. The upper
one only allows the positive half cycles and the lower one allows the
negative half cycles. The current can flow in one direction only through
the load.
Full-Wave Bridge Rectifiers
Four PN Junction Diodes are used to make this rectifier circuit. Four
diodes are connected in such a way that a bridge like structure is formed,
and it has four sides to connect input and output terminals.
