INFRARED RADIATION
1.Define Infrared Radiation
-a region of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum where wavelengths range from about
700 nanometers (nm) to 1 millimeter (mm)

2.Describe where infrared is found on the ems compared to the other six forms of
radiation. In your description, compare and contrast its wavelength, frequency and energy
with those of other regions of the EMS:
Contrast:wavelengths range from about 700 nanometers (nm) to 1 millimeter
(mm). frequencies above those of microwaves and just below those of red visible
light.Energy a type of radiant energy, with longer wavelengths than the visible light
humans can see, but shorter wavelengths than radio waves.
3.Are the human risks from exposure (or overexposure) to
infrared radiation? If so:
-causes a gradual but irreversible opacity of the lens

Describe the main risk(s)

-Large doses of radio waves are believed to cause cancer, leukaemia and other disorder

Describe common sources of exposure (or overexposure)

-Key sources of RF fields include mobile phones, cordless phones, local wireless networks

and radio transmission towers.
Describe a technology, device,or behavior that can be used for protection or to decrease exposure.

-There are things that can decrease the exposure to radio waves such as aluminum foil, and other
electrically conductive metals such as copper, can reflect and absorb the
radio waves and consequently interferes with their transmission.
4.Describe how infrared technology can be used to enable people to “see”in the dark

-infrared detectors make it possible to “see” in the dark by converting heat emitted
naturally by any object above absolute zero into an electronic signal, which is then used to
generate an image
