HUMAN BODY

THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

• THE SYSTEM RESPONSIBLE IN BREATHING; INHALING OF OXYGEN AND THE

EXHALING OF CARBON DIOXIDE.

• THE PROCESS BY WHICH CELLS USE THE OXYGEN TO BREAKDOWN SUGAR AND
OBTAIN ENERGY RESPIRATION.
WHAT ARE THE
PARTS OF THE
RESPIRATORY
SYSTEM
PARTS OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM AND
ITS FUNCTIONS

• NOSE AND MOUTH - allow air enter the body then filters debris
and warms and moisten the air.
• PHARYNX ( THROAT ) – it is a tube that delivers air from the
mouth and nose to the lower part which is the trachea.
• TRACHEA ( WIND PIPE ) – it is the passageway connecting the
throat and the lungs.
• BRONCHI – are the two large tubes that carry air from the
windpipe to the lungs.
• LUNGS - are the spongy, air filled organs located on either side of
the chest ( thorax ).This is an organ that remove oxygen from the air
and pass it into the blood.
• BRONCHIOLES –air passages inside the lungs that branches off
like tree limbs from the bronchi. These is responsible in the delivery
of air into tiny sacs called alveoli.
• ALVEOLI – are where the lungs and the blood exchange oxygen
and carbon dioxide during the process of breathing in and breathing
out.
WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM IN THE HUMAN
BODY
• THERE ARE 5 FUNCTIONS OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

• GAS EXCHANGE – oxygen and carbon dioxide.

• BREATHING – movement of air.
• SOUND PRODUCTION.
• OLFACTORY ASSISTANCE – sense of smell.
• PROTECTION – from dust and microbes entering body through mucus production, cilia,
and coughing.
ASSIGNMENT

MANAGE THIS DISORDERS. WRITE IT IN YOUR ASSIGNMENT NOTEBOOK IN
SCIENCE AND PASS IT ON OUR NEXT SCIENCE CLASS.
