OBLIGATION
Aside from permission, we also use modal verbs in expressing
obligation. We use the modals must in expressing firm obligation
or necessity while should is used in expressing moral obligation.
Examples:
1. Power Generation Facility office must heighten its security
system to avoid any threat or danger.
2. As an eldest, she should accompany her siblings all the time for
them not to get lost.
Have to
We can also use “have to” to talk about rules and regulations. The authority for the
obligation doesn’t come from the person who is speaking.
“Have to” is a normal verb. Use “do” or “does” to make a question, and “don’t” or
“doesn’t” to make a negative.
