Lab 1 –
Forecasting
• Tasks given
• Create forecast for
the product F10
(Casual saw)
• The data has been
aggregated in
periods of four
weeks per period (1
year = 4*13 = 52
weeks)
1 ) Calculate the average for each year (  the equivalent of 13 periods per
year)
Steps taken 2) Calculate the change in the average of  (X-2) to year X = 517– 595 = -
78
3)  Calculate the trend per month = -78/24 = -3.25  = 3= T
4) Remove the trend from the data doing the following i.e. for period 2:
426-T*(Period-1)= 429

 1   442
 2 429, 0
 3   838
 4   899
 5   905
 6   895
 7   609
 8   621

Demand
without trend

Average=   614,38
  614,00
Remove season =AVERAGE(Year 1: Year 3)/614
Demand with level remove

This was calculated the following

way:

1) Demand with season remove of

each period – Level
Forecast

Assignment 2c
Interpret your result from 2a and 2b by deriving EOQ for both cases (instant and continuous
deliveries into inventory) by drawing how the quantity in inventory depends on time. You should also
formulate the corresponding cost functions that leads to the order quantity C(Q), what separates the
two cases? In which is the order quantity largest? In which is the cost of holding inventory largest?

Master Schedule Game
KEY DATA

• Fixed Labor Wages =$5/hr ( $5*480hr = $2400/hr)

• Set-up time for A& Odd balls are 40hrs and for B ball its 30hrs
• The cost of the material = $4
• Selling price for A Ball, B Ball & Odd Ball respectively are $8, $7& $10
• The inventory holding cost = $0.10/unit
• Penalty for delay of Odd Ball = $2/unit
STRATEGIES
• Start by producing nerf ball as the machine has been already set-up

• Accepting A& B balls only if there is time left for production as it has no penalty

• Accepting more Odd balls as it fetches $10/unit

• Can maintain an inventory if there is more work hours left as inventory cost is cheaper than labor cost

• It's better to produce and stock in the inventory if there is a low requirement of same type of ball in the next

period
