REDUCING TIME WASTAGE

An important strategy for using time wisely is to cut down or eliminate the wastage of time. According to lord Chesterfield said, If you to take care of minutes, the hours will take care of themselves.

TIME WASTAGE
1. Searching for things: Some people spend a lot of their time continually searching for things that they have misplaced. 2. Interruptions: Interruptions at work are the greatest time wasters. Interruptions are extremely time consuming because not only do they disrupt and take time away from task but after the interruption time is also lost trying to refocus and regroup.

TIME WASTAGE
3. Inability to delegate: Some people try to do everything themselves. They are unable to delegate even the most trivial matter to others and as a result they find themselves constantly overburdened and stressed. 4. Not knowing and listing priorities: Lack of knowledge and clarity about what is important and what are not results in people spending their time doing irrelevant things.

Classification Activities
1. Urgency: Urgent refer to any activity that requires our immediate attention. They are visible, press on us and insist on action. For example, a telephone that is ringing. Thus an activity may be classified as urgent or not urgent. 2. Importance: Importance has too do with results. They are related to our mission and values. They are the high priority goals in our life. Thus an activity may be classified as important or not important.

Putting the two dimensions together we get four types of activities or four ways in which we spend our time:
1. Important Urgent: Crisis management, pressing problems and deadline driven projects are examples of such activities. 2. Important Not Urgent: Preventive measures, relationship building, planning and recognizing new opportunities are examples of such activities. 3. Not Important Urgent: Interruptions at work, singing of papers, phone calls, popular activities are examples of such activities. 4. Not Important Not Urgent: Chit-Chatting, channel surfing, gossiping etc are examples of such activities.
