Language skills are closely related to speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills,
PROBLEM OF STUDY reading success is based on students' ability to recognize written symbols. Students who are
slow in reading need a long time to read a passage, students need something tangible help in
understanding difficult material. One way that can help students understand the material is

The observations of writer in class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Karangbinangun showed that
students had difficulties in their ability and understanding when reading texts, one of the
reasons was because students were bored reading the reading material provided by the
teacher.
The application of local wisdom-based material in this study aims to determine the
extent of the influence of local wisdom-based materials on the reading ability of XI grade
students of SMAN 1 Karangbiangun.

According to (Bal, 2017) Narrative text is a type of text that is appropriate to tell activities or
events in the past, which shows a problematic experience and resolution which means
entertaining, or is often intended to provide moral lessons to the readers.
2. The second study from (Rahman, 2019) with the research title "The effect of local culture-
based material to improve reading ability of 8th grade students at state junior high school 9
Yogyakarta“, with the results showing that Culture-Based Materials Local (LCBM) has a
significant effect on improving students' reading ability
3. The third research from (Sastrawati, 2019) with the research title "The Effect of Using Local
Wisdom-Based Reading Materials on the Students' Reading Comprehension", with research
results showing that reading based on local wisdom materials positively affects students'
reading comprehension.

CONCLUSION
1. There are differences in the results of students' reading abilities using local wisdom materials
SUGGESTION with students using textbooks. To find out the results of reading ability using local wisdom
material as indicated by the results of the paired sample t test of the experimental group and
the control group, the value of Sig (2.tailed) is smaller than the significant level (0.000 <
0.005). , then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted which means "there is a difference between the
experimental class students and the control class students".

2. There are satisfactory results in the student response questionnaire to the local wisdom-based
material used in the English subject of narrative text material in class XI SMA N 1
SUGGESTION
Karangbinangun as an experimental class, and the results of the data on student responses to local
wisdom-based materials obtained an average value. by 89%, thus it can be concluded that in the
questionnaire, student responses are very good

CONCLUSION
1. To the English teacher, according to the results of the study, it shows that the enthusiasm of
SUGGESTION students in learning does not exist because students are bored, therefore there is a need for a
new atmosphere in learning in the classroom so that students feel happy and not bored
during the learning process.
2. For writers, treatment should be carried out longer so that the effect of using learning media
based on local wisdom material is more visible.
3. Further researchers are advised to further explore the use of local wisdom-based materials,
both those used to improve reading skills and developed to improve students' writing skills.
