MODELS AND STRATEGIES OF TEACHING
Introduction
 A teaching model is a framework that teachers use to plan and deliver lessons.
 It is designed to help teachers create a cohesive and effective learning experience for their students.
 There are many different types of teaching models, but all of them share some common features.
 Different teaching methods can help improve learning, and it is also important for teachers to have
the professional and personal qualities that make them effective educators.
 Creating a positive and supportive learning atmosphere can also help students develop their skills
and metacognitive abilities.
 Ultimately, all of these factors contribute to whether or not educational objectives are met.
 There are a huge number of models related to teaching which are used in different educational
institutions all over the world.
 In order to categorize the teaching models into a system of classification, Joyce and Weil decided to
put the teaching models into four families.
 These families include information processing family, personal family, social family and
behavioural family

Information processing family model

 The information processing family model suggests that the mind is a computer that
takes in information from the senses, processes it in some way, and produces
behaviour as output.
 The model suggests that the human brain processes information in a series of steps,
including receiving information from the senses, processing the information in the
brain, storing the information in memory, and retrieving the information from
memory when it is needed.
 This model has been influential in cognitive science and psychology, and has been
used to explain a variety of phenomena, from simple learning and memory to complex
decision-making.

3. processes it in some way

4. produces behaviour as output

5. storing the information in memory

6. retrieving the information from memory when it is needed.

Information processing family model
 The model is composed of a number of different components, each of which
represents a different stage in the processing of information.
 The first stage is sensory input, where information from the outside world is recorded by
the senses and passed on to the brain.
 The second stage is short-term memory, where information is stored for a brief period of
time so that it can be processed.
 The third stage is long-term memory, where information is stored for a longer period of
time and can be retrieved when needed.
 The fourth stage is executive control, where information is processed and behaviour is
produced.

Personal Family Model
 A personal family model of teaching is one in which parents take an active role in teaching their children about
the world around them.
 This may involve anything from leading by example to more formalized instruction.
 One of the key benefits of this approach is that it allows parents to instil their own values and beliefs in their
children from a young age.
 This can help children develop a strong sense of identity and a clear understanding of what is important to their
family.
 This model of thinking about families puts an importance on the individual family members and their personal
relationships within the family.
 Additionally, it acknowledges that families are constantly changing and that each family member has a different
role to play.
 This approach can provide children with a solid foundation on which to build their own beliefs and values as
they grow older.
 It is important to be careful not to overburden children with too much information or force them to conform to
your own beliefs.
 Instead, it is important to encourage critical thinking and allow children the space to form their own opinions.
Overall, a personal family model of teaching can be a very effective way to instil values and beliefs in children.

Behavioural systems family model
 A behavioural systems family model is a model of human behaviour that considers the
impact of environmental factors on behaviour.
 It is based on the idea that behaviour is a product of the interaction between the
individual and their environment.
 The behaviour of an individual is determined by the interaction between all four of
these components.
 For example, a person’s behaviour may be influenced by their personality (individual), their
culture (environment), the consequences of their behaviour (behaviour) and their knowledge
and experience (individual).
 The behavioural systems family model is a useful tool for understanding and
predicting human behaviour. It can be used to explain why people behave in certain
ways and to identify the factors that influence behaviour.

Social Family Model
 A social family model of teaching is a teaching approach that emphasizes the importance of social interaction in
the learning process.
 This model of teaching is based on the idea that children learn best when they are actively engaged in social
interactions with their peers and adults.
 The social family model of teaching is designed to provide opportunities for children to interact with each other
and with adults in a variety of contexts.
 The goal of this model of teaching is to promote social and emotional development, as well as cognitive and
academic skills.
 This model is based on the belief that the child's extended family is the community, and that the child's
development is best supported by close relationships with community members.
 It is reported that learning obtained through social interaction with the community lasts far longer than learning
without social interaction.
 The main idea of the social family model is that families are not only influenced by their own internal dynamics,
but also by the larger social environment in which they exist.
 This model emphasizes the importance of understanding how families interact with the world around them, and
how this interaction can impact the family unit as a whole.
Role of teaching models in forming the social
skills and achieving educational goals

 There are a variety of different types of teaching models that can be used in
order to help form social skills and achieve educational goals.
 Some common teaching models include behaviourism, constructivism, and

humanism. Each of these models have different approaches to teaching and

learning, and each can be beneficial in its own way.
• all behaviour is learned through conditioning.
• student is consistently rewarded for good behaviour
Behaviourism •

learn to display that behaviour more often
if a student is punished for bad behaviour, they avoid that
behaviour.

• Students actively constructing their own knowledge.

Constructivism • teachers should provide students with opportunities to
explore

Humanism • students should be treated as individuals with their own

unique needs and abilities.
Using social family model teach students to
problem solve through small group activities
 The social family model teaches students to problem solve through small group
activities by teaching them how to communicate and work together to find solutions.
 This model is based on the idea that families are the most important social unit and
that children learn best by interacting with others in small groups.
 This model encourages students to share their ideas and to listen to others, to negotiate
and to compromise.
 It also teaches them how to resolve conflicts and to think creatively to find solutions.
 This model is beneficial for students because it helps them to develop social skills, to
learn how to work together, and to think critically.
