Purpose of the project

The whole purpose for this project was to

demonstrate the importance of volleyball and the
benefits of volleyball and how can it be an
importance to our lives . And how we can be a
better player when playing volleyball.

Pg.1
Definition of volleyball

volleyball, game played by two teams, usually of

six players on a side, in which the players use their
hands to bat a ball back and forth over a high net,
trying to make the ball touch the court within the
opponents' playing area before it can be returned.

Pg.2
History of volleyball

Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G.

Morgan, physical director of the Young Men's
Christian Association (YMCA) in Holyoke,
Massachusetts. It was designed as an indoor sport for
businessmen who found the new game of basketball
too vigorous.

Fundamental # 1

1.Hitting

To improve a the hitter position, player should spend

time on footwork and swing to ensure the ball goes in
the direction they want and at a high velocity.
Positions

1. Keep the ball in front of your head to the right of your ears
2. Strike the ball with extended arm
3. Spiking approach

Pg.4
Fundamental # 2

1. Passing
The two main ways to pass a volleyball are the forearm pass
and the overhand pass. Forearm passing is performed by
bringing the forearms together to work as a platform for
passing the ball.

Positions:
1. Feet shoulder width
2. Feet staggered
3. Knees bent
4. Shoulders forward
5. Arms front and relaxed

Pg.5
Fundamental # 3

3. Blocking

Blocking is a skill wherein the player deflects the ball from the opponent. The
goal is to prevent a successful attack and the other team from scoring a point.
The blocker's job is to block the spiked ball so that it goes back to the
opposing team's side of the court. Blocking is a defensive play.
Position:

▪ Medium posture, knees flexed, keep back straight, shoulders slightly forward

▪ Feet shoulder width, weight balanced on feet

▪ Elbows bent – shoulder height/hands just above eyes

▪ Drop into your jump (1/2 squat, especially for smaller blockers)

▪ Fingers spread wide, relaxed hands, and hands do not go below shoulders

▪ Penetrate the net – reach with hands over the plane of the net Pg.6
3 Common errors in each fundamental

Lesson learnt from this project

From this whole project I learnt how to

improve with my hitting, passing and blocking

types of fundamentals in volleyball as well as
how to posture myself as well as the types of
positions . I even got to know the errors in
