Definitions
Soil contamination, soil pollution, or land pollution as a part of land degradation is caused
by the presence of xenobiotic chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil
environment. It is typically caused by industrial activity, agricultural chemicals or improper
disposal of waste.
Soil pollution refers to the contamination of soil with anomalous concentrations of toxic
substances. It is a serious environmental concern since it harbours many health hazards.
For example, exposure to soil containing high concentrations of benzene increases the risk
of contracting leukemia.

EXAMPLES
CREOSETE
Creosote has also been used as a pesticide. Creosote
can be released into soil and water and can then
move through the soil to groundwater found
underground in porous structures and spaces in soil,
sand, and rock. After creosote gets into groundwater,
it may take many years to break down.

EXAMPLES
ASBETOS
Often fragments of bonded asbestos material
such as fibro are present in or on the soil surface
as a result of incomplete clean-up following the
demolition of structures that contained asbestos
cement products

EXAMPLES
PESTECIDES
Common contaminants in urban soils include pesticides,
petroleum products, radon, asbestos, lead, chromated copper
arsenate and creosote. In urban areas, soil contamination is
largely caused by human activities.
PESTICIDES
Pesticides can contaminate soil, water, turf, and other
vegetation. In addition to killing insects or weeds, pesticides
can be toxic to a host of other organisms including birds, fish,
beneficial insects, and non-target plants.

EXAMPLES
RADON
Radon can enter homes from gas emission through
the soil and bedrock. It's possible for radon gas to be
dissolved in well water, too. However, radon from well
water is typically much lower than radon emissions
from the soil. Exceptions to this commonly occur in
areas with hot water springs.

SOLUTION
SOLUTION
Using pesticides safely depends on many things. Some of the
most important factors include selecting the APPROPRIATE
PRODUCT, and using that product according to the LABEL
DIRECTIONS. The label directions are written to MINIMIZE the
RISK of problems and to define the LEGAL USES for the
product. and use PPE to avoid exposure to the pesticides
because it may cause cancer or other illness to the people
who have interact with it.

SOLUTION
SOLUTION
The best thing you can do is start composting your
food scraps. It is an easy and effective way to reduce
your waste it will turn food scraps into soil.
Additionally, composting can reduce methane
emissions from landfills and lowers your carbon
footprint. A waste management is also must and try
to practice the 3rs which mean REDUCE, RE-USE and
RECYCLE.

SOLUTION
Don't overfill fuel tanks fill to only 90 percent
capacity to reduce the chance of spills. Use oil
absorbent pads in the bilges of all boats with
inboard engines. Regularly inspect through-hull
fittings often to reduce the risk of sinking.
Recycle used oil and filters. Also this method
they are using when oil spills in shore.
