When the detector is disabled or set to standby via the GPI, the status
cannot be changed through the normal enable / disable function on the
front panel.
When the night-time thresholds are invoked via the GPI, the clock
settings for day-start and night-start are overridden.

The USB port is used for initial configuration and local maintenance
or servicing of the VESDA-E using a PC running VSC
The Ethernet port is used for permanent network connection. Use a
standard Ethernet cable when connecting VESDA-E to a network
switch or router
WiFi provides wireless connection of the detector for the purpose of
configuration and secondary monitoring

Wiring - Relays
Powering Up
During the power up sequence the Power LED illuminates and the
detector runs a series of self-diagnostic tests, where the fault LED
will illuminate should a fault condition occurs
The aspirator starts up and air will be felt flowing out of the exhaust
port
Ensure that the air sampling pipe network has been installed as per
the site plans
Check that the pipe network is clean and fitted with all joints
correctly seated and sealed
Make sure the detector end of the sampling pipes are firmly
connected to the pipe inlets. Ensure that the pipes are not glued to
the inlet manifold
Check that the alarm and fault signalling wires have been
connected to the correct terminals on the detector
Ensure that the adhesive tape has been removed from the exhaust
port. If an exhaust pipe is being used ensure that this pipe is not
glued to the exhaust manifold
Make sure the protective film has been removed from the display

openings on the VESDA-E.
Secure the electrical conduit.
Connect all the wiring terminals onto the appropriate positions
on the VESDA-E main board.
What is iVESDA?
• Downloadable application that can be installed on
Android and iOS handheld devices to monitor and
maintain VESDA-E systems with unprecedented
ease
• Compatible with existing VESDA detectors residing
on the same VESDAnet as VESDA-E
• Provides detailed alarm, fault and other status
information such as smoke trends, airflow, filter life,
as well as viewing of important configuration
parameters such as pipes in use and smoke alarm
thresholds
• Future release of iVESDA will also provide
configuration capability for the entire VESDA system
as well as event log retrieval
98
How iVESDA Connects
Connectivity between VESDA-E and iVESDA
can be established within the protected facility
using a standard WiFi network, or remotely via
the Internet
Typical topology is where iVESDA, on a
handheld device, communicates with the entire
VESDAnet via a wireless router, and VESDA-E
acts as a gateway into the VESDAnet allowing
for backwards compatibility
Before starting iVESDA the following must be
prepared and already in place
− The target detector must be configured to
communicate with a nearby access point
− The handheld device that will run iVESDA
must also communicate with the same
access point
− The target detector IP address must be
recorded for later use
− The target detector password must be
known
99
How iVESDA is Used
• With iVESDA the interaction and response to
the VESDA detection system is taken to a
completely new level of ease and portability
• Facility Managers now have a convenient
means of monitoring their entire VESDA
population for status, alarm, fault and
configuration information with a handheld
device, without the need for a PC and High
Level Interface, no matter where they are
located
• First Responders can receive live status
information to direct immediate response to
imminent threats and can monitor any spread of
the threat across the VESDA network
• Field Service Engineers can obtain system
diagnostic and maintenance information before
and during a site visit without the need for a
local hard wired connection, simplifying and
speeding up site visits

Starting iVESDA
Start the iVESDA app by tapping on its icon
Starting iVESDA
Connecting to a detector for the first time
NOTE: The following instructions assume that there is already a WiFi connection between the
Handheld device and an access point and that the target detector is also connected to the same WiFi
access point. If the WiFi connections are not already in place the following will not work.
iVESDA works by connecting to a VEU detector through a WiFi wireless access point. If no detector
connection exists then one must be created. It will be remembered for future use.
