What is communication?
• The word communication has originated from a Latin word
“Communes” which means something common.

• Communication is a process of exchanging information, ideas,


thoughts, feelings and emotions through speech signals, writing
or behavior.
Verbal Communication
• Verbal communication is the use of words to convey a message. Some
forms of verbal communication are written and oral communication.
• Oral communication: which includes what we speak to others in the
form of words.
Non – Verbal communication
• Nonverbal communication is the transmission of messages or signals
through a nonverbal platform such as eye contact, facial expressions,
gestures, posture, and body language.
Written communication
• Written communication is any written message that two or more
people exchange. Written communication is typically more formal but
less efficient than oral communication.
Visual communication
• Visual communication is the
use of visual elements to
convey ideas and information
which include signs, drawing,
graphic design, illustration,
advertising, animation, and
electronic resources.
Intrapersonal communication
• Intrapersonal communication
can be defined
as communication with one's
self, and that may include self-
talk, acts of imagination and
visualization, and even recall
the memory.
Interpersonal communication
• Interpersonal communication is the process of exchange an
information, ideas and feelings between two or more people through
verbal or non-verbal methods. It often includes face-to-face
exchange of information, in a form of voice, facial expressions, body
language and gestures.
Small group communication
• Small group communication refers to communication among three or
more people who interact verbally, perform certain informal roles with
respect to one another, feel a sense of belonging and collaborate to
achieve a desired goal.
Public communication
• Public communication means a
communication by means of any
broadcast, cable, or satellite
communication, newspaper,
magazine, mass mailing, or
telephone bank to the general
public, or any other form of
advertising.
Mass communication
• Mass communication can be defined
as the process of creating, sending,
receiving, and analyzing messages to
large audiences via verbal and written
media. It is an expansive field that
considers not only how and why a
message is created, but also the
medium through which it is sent.
