astronomers.

ZODIAC CONSTELLATIONS
• Zodiac sign constellations is a “group of belt constellations” that
fall along the plane of the ecliptic. It is through these
constellations that our Sun appears to “pass” during the year.
• While there are 12 astrological constellations of the zodiac,
there are 13 astronomical zodiac constellations: Capricornus,
Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo,
Libra, Scorpius, Sagittarius, and Ophiuchus.

the ancient Greeks.
• The constellation is
named after Ida, who
nursed the infant Zeus
(king of the ancient Greek
gods).
HYDRA
• The largest
constellation in the sky.
• It lies in the southern
celestial hemisphere.
• Represents the water
snake from Greek
mythology.
GEMINI
• Its name means “the
twins” in Latin and
represents the twins
Castor and Pollux
(Polydeuces)
• Also known as the
Dioscuri in ancient
times, in Greek
mythology.
TAURUS
• It symbolizes a bull, and
according to Greek
mythology, the
constellation Taurus
represents Zeus by
changing himself into a
beautiful white Bull to
win the affections of the
Phoenician princess
Europa.

• Orion is also one of

Greek mythology.
