DUTIES OF FIRST RESPONDER IN
RADIOLOGICAL EMERGENCIES.
• The following steps are to be followed at the earliest by
those individuals first arriving at the scene of radiological
accident.
• Contact the emergency management agency as soon as
possible.
• Wear personal dosimeter, protective equipments.
• Restrict the area of the incident, Perform life saving rescue
and emergency first aid.
• Keep the public as far as possible from the incident scene
and any associated debris.
cont…
• Keep upwind of the incident specially where fire
is present.
• The area downwind of the flow especially smoke
and ash are involved.
• Evacuate the public from the effected area
(cleaned off).
• Remove upwind personnel as far away as
practical from incident scene.
• If medical attention is needed assist in
arrangement for medical assistance.
• If it is used for the mankind it will be very useful
otherwise it will be very harmful to the world.
• Emergency arises normally when there is a mishap due
to failure of radiation safety control or during the
(operation) handling of the source.
•  In the event of nuclear radiological emergencies, plans
are to be made in advance to avoid deterministic effect
and to minimize stochastic effect at the same. Sealed
sources of radiological materials are used in the following
field.
• Industries (generator set in high altitude area.) Narora.
• Medicine (cancer therapy,,radiation,x-ray.
• Research purpose (BARC).
• Nuclear reactors.
