It takes its principles from the Counselling Learning Approach developed by Charles A. Curran.

CLL has two roles: the teacher as counselor and the

Students are to be considered as "learner-clients"

and the teacher as a "teacher- counselor".

Students are permitted to use their native

language, and are provided with translations from the teacher which they then attempt to apply.

Grammar and vocabulary are taught inductively. "Chunks" of target language produced by the

students are recorded and later listened to they are also transcribed with native language equivalents to become texts the students work with.

Students apply the target language independently

and without translation when they feel confident enough to do so.

Students are encouraged to express not only how

they feel about the language, but how they feel about the learning process, to which the teacher expresses empathy and understanding.
A variety of activities can be included (for example,

focusing on a particular grammar or pronunciation point, or creating new sentences based on the recordings/transcripts).

y Play a role as a counselor or a knower y Facilitate rather than to teach. y Helps to overcome negative feelings by showing he

understands them e.g teacher uses students mothertounge. y Teacher helps students achieve what they want , offering help and counsel to the community "of the class

y Teacher takes time before or during or after

various activities to allow students to express how they feel about the language and the learning experience and the teacher indicates empathy/understanding

y Students choose what they want to say and

their target language production is recorded for later listening/ dissemination

y Students listen to their own voices in the

tape in a relaxed and reflective environment.

y Teacher produces a transcription of the tape-

recorded conversation with translations in the mother language-this is then used for follow up activities or analysis.

y Teacher is a human computerfor the

students to control- the teacher stating anything in the target language the student wants to practice , giving them the oppurtinity to self correct.

b- teacher repeats , doesn t correct c- interaction among students d- students feel in control / responsible

y Students work in small groups to create

new sentences using the transcript, afterwards sharing them with the rest of the class.

DISADVANTAGES
y In the beginning some

autonomy CLL offers them and thrive on analyzing their own conversations. y CLL works especially well with lower levels who are struggling to produce spoken English. y The class often becomes a real community, not just when using CLL but all of the time. Students become much more aware of their peers, their strengths and weaknesses and want to work as a team.

learners find it difficult to speak on tape while others might find that the conversation lacks spontaneity. y As teachers can find it strange to give your students so much freedom and tend to intervene too much. y Teachers tend to neglect the students need for guidance in order to make them independent learners.
