Meaning of Health

 Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not

The Importance of Physical Health

 Improves our mood - Physical and mental wellbeing go hand in hand. Exercise is a great way to keep our students physically healthy as
well as improving their state of mind. Research has proven that undertaking exercise releases endorphins to the brain, which in turn
makes us feel good and improves our mood.

 Boosts energy levels - Having high energy levels is extremely important at school, particularly during certain times of the year such as
exam season. It’s been scientifically proven that doing physical exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to the entire body helping it to
work more efficiently.

 Improves the quality of our sleep - As we establishing a good sleep pattern is essential for improving mental wellbeing. If you’re active
during the day, you tend to fall asleep easier and stay asleep for longer.

 Helps to combat health issues - Being physically healthy means our bodies are better equipped to fight an illness which of course means
less days off school!

 Opportunity to socialize - joining a sports team is a great way for students to get more involved with the school community and meet
new friends.
Emotional health
 is about how we think and feel. It is about our sense of wellbeing, our ability to
cope with life events and how we acknowledge our own emotions as well as those
of others. It doesn't mean being happy all of the time.
Why is emotional health important?

 Good emotional health helps you see the best in yourself despite challenges.
More energy. Having a positive outlook makes you feel more energized and helps
you focus and think more clearly, whereas poor emotional health depletes your
mental resources and leads to exhaustion.
What is good mental health?

 the ability to learn.


 the ability to feel, express and manage a range of positive and negative emotions.
 the ability to form and maintain good relationships with others.
 the ability to cope with and manage change and uncertainty.
What affects your emotional health?

 Depression, anxiety, stress, poor body image, grief, loss, a major change in your life such
as becoming a new parent can all affect your mental and emotional health and day to day
living. Sometimes it is hard to know if what you are experiencing is depression or sadness,
worry or anxiety.
5 signs of Emotional Suffering

 Personality change in a way that seems different for that person.


 Agitation or displaying anger, anxiety or moodiness.
 Withdrawal or isolation from others.
 Poor self-care and perhaps engaging in risky behavior.

Intellectual Health

 refers to being open to new ideas and experiences, and the desire to increase
understanding, improve skills, and continually challenge yourself. Additionally, it connects
to maximizing your creative potential.
Why is intellectual health important?

 Intellectual wellness is important because it helps people achieve a more balanced


life. Exploring new ideas and understanding a variety of subjects makes you more
mindful and a more well-rounded person. ... So when you seek out new
experiences and gain new knowledge, you are expanding your intellectual
wellness.

Social health
 can be defined as our ability to interact and form meaningful relationships with
others. It also relates to how comfortably we can adapt in social situations. Social
relationships have an impact on our mental health, physical health and mortality
risk.
Signs of Being Socially Healthy Include:

 Balancing your social and personal time


 Being your true self at all times
 Engaging with people in your community
 Treating others with respect
 Maintaining and building strong relationships with friends
 Creating healthy boundaries that help with communication, trust and conflict management

we're spiritually healthy, we feel more connected to not only a higher power, but
to those around us. We have more clarity when it comes to making everyday
choices, and our actions become more consistent with our beliefs and values

Occupational Health - relates to health, safety, and welfare
issues in the workplace
What is the purpose of Occupational Health and Safety?

 Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) deals with all aspects of health and safety
in the workplace and has a strong focus on primary prevention of hazards. Its
goal is to prevent accidents and harm to people from work-related activities.
