ISA QUESTION OF THE DAY

3Ms
Topic: Finding Solution/s of Linear
Equations and Inequalities in One
Variable
Learning Objective:
❑ differentiate algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities
❑ illustrate linear equation and inequality in one variable
❑ find the solution of linear equation or inequality in one variable
❑ solve linear equations in one variable using the properties of
equality.

Essential Question
 How do mathematical expression,
equation and inequality differ from
each other?
Linear Equation
is an equation in which the highest power of the
variable is always 1.
Ex: x + 2 = 3

Linear Inequalities
are the expressions where any two values are
compared by the inequality symbols such as, '<', '>',
'≤' or '≥'
Ex: x + 5 ≥ 8

TAKE NOTE!
Finding Solutions!

Try to figure out which among the given values of x will satisfy the given
equation/inequality. (Use substitution method)

1. x + 5 = 13
2. x – 3 > 6

a.) x = - 3 b.) x = 5 c.) x = 8

 differentiate algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities

 illustrate linear equation and inequality in one variable
 find the solution of linear equation or inequality in one variable
Try it!
Solve for the value of x.
1. x–4=8
2. x+3=5
3. 3x = 75
4. 4x + 7 = x - 8

 solve linear equations in one variable using the properties of equality.

Try it!
1. x = 12
Solve for the value of x.

2. x = 2
3. x = 25
4. x = -5
5. x = 26/3 or 8 and 2/3.

 solve linear equations in one variable using the properties of equality.

SOCIALIZED DISCUSSION
Try to figure out which among the given values of x will satisfy the
given equation/inequality on the left.
(Use substitution method).

x = -3 x=5 x=8

x-3≤5
