A Love Poem

Inspired from the novel “When we were brave”

Sparrow and Hawk

Philline Pelejo
One full, bright-moon night,
a pair of emerald green eyes
stubborn, full of life and willed
a beautiful British agent
with a little doubt of competence.
A pair of deepest blue eyes
dashing and a man of valor
a soldier, a fighter, a lover
a German Nazi
an enemy of the country,
but is he?
she knew he was trouble,
he knew she'll be a complication
but they were destined for greatness,
they were destined to meet.

both found love in a time of war and uncertainty

both were fighting for freedom
both were brave
both has frail hearts
both faced betrayal
1944,
Where war and death are everywhere
crowded with German soldiers,
the sound of guns and rifles were breaking the
silence in the streets of Paris
They knew they don't have a chance to live
longer
They knew, and they were not afraid
Or is there no time to be afraid?
It was that day,
that they knew that sacrifices were not a choice
it is an acceptance.
She said, “it is alright to die, I do not fear it.
For it is the noblest reason of all,
it is for my love for you, it is to protect my
family,
it is all for the freedom of my country.”
Their tears were silent
Their hearts were weeping,
his heart dies.
Now, the war is over,
they were betrayed, branded as traitor of the
country
people don't know what they did
how brave they were to fight for freedom
how strong they were to accept their fate in
death
how their love for each other was stronger above
anything else
how firm their faith until the day they die.
She was once called a sparrow
and he was the hawk.
Together, they fight for their
love in each other
Together, they accept their fate
Together, they protect each
other so that their desire for
peace was fulfilled.
And then finally, the guns fell
silent.
