Then vs Now

THEN
The Sri Lankan Civil War was a civil war fought in Sri Lanka from
1983 to 2009. Beginning on 23 July 1983, there was an
intermittent insurgency against the government by the Liberation
Tigers of Tamil Eelam who fought to create an independent Tamil state
called Tamil Eelam in the north-east of the island, due to continuous
discrimination and violent persecution against Sri Lankan Tamils by
the Sinhalese dominated Sri Lankan Government
 In all of the 90s Sri Lankan economy (GDP) never crossed 57 billion
dollars. This became better in the 2000s as they really put effort into
their different sectors such as import and export, tourism, agriculture
especially agriculture.
 All the hard work paid off and Sri Lanka had a GDP of 86.78 billion
dollars. It was now put in the middle class income country and was
now starting to come back on its feet.
NOW
 Now after getting back on their feet It seems Sri Lanka is on a
path to destruction. Sri Lankan prime minister Ranil
Wickremesinghe declared the country "bankrupt" as its
financial crisis deepens. The economy began to falter in late
2020, which the government blamed on the pandemic but one
expert said was mainly caused by political mismanagement and
racking up debts with China. Sri Lanka defaulted on its debts
for the first time in May. Since then, its foreign currency
reserves have run out and it had less than a day's worth of fuel
left. The government has told everyone not working in
essential services to work from home to save fuel and has shut
schools.
