BIRTH AND PARENTAGE
 Gautam Buddha was Kshatriya prince and was the son of Shuddhodana, the
Saka ruler of Kapilvastu, in Nepal.
 Majority of historians accept 567 B.C. as the date of birth of Lord Buddha.
 He was named Siddhartha and later came to be as Buddha. His family name
of Gautam.
 His mother Mahamaya was the princess of Kosala family.
CHILDHOOD
 He was brought up in the lap of luxury with great love and affection. Like other khastriya princes he received high
education and was taught horse riding and archery.
 But he was always absorbed in thoughts and liked to remain in lonliness. Sight of sufferings made him sad and
restless.
