BIRTH AND PARENTAGE
Gautam Buddha was Kshatriya prince and was the son of Shuddhodana, the
Saka ruler of Kapilvastu, in Nepal.
Majority of historians accept 567 B.C. as the date of birth of Lord Buddha.
He was named Siddhartha and later came to be as Buddha. His family name
of Gautam.
His mother Mahamaya was the princess of Kosala family.
CHILDHOOD
He was brought up in the lap of luxury with great love and affection. Like other khastriya princes he received high
education and was taught horse riding and archery.
But he was always absorbed in thoughts and liked to remain in lonliness. Sight of sufferings made him sad and
restless.
