Portable Ladders

• Inspect a ladder before each use.


• Remove from service if broken.
• Store correctly after use.
• Use heavy duty, non-metal ladders.
• Do not use “spliced ladders”.
• Use standby man.

• Use the “4 to 1” ratio.


• Place on level surface.
• Secure in place.
• Ensure fully opened.
• Check warning labels.
• Check for hazards.
• Avoid doors.
• No stacking on objects.

Safety Tips

• Face the ladder.


• Use two hands.
• Carry tools in a tool-belt.
• Avoid top 2-steps.
• Avoid sitting on top.
• Move the ladder to reach.
• Shoes & ladder must be
clean (no grease or mud).

Pre-job Ladder Check


• Joints between steps and side rails are tight?

• Hardware and fittings are securely attached?

• Moveable parts are free to operate?

• Frayed or worn rope is replaced?

• Safety feet operate?

• Rungs and steps are clean and undamaged?

• Paint is preventing rust or weathering?

• Warning label is attached?
