LITERATURE REVIEW

Employee satisfaction and perception about the quality management practices

The process of organizing, interpreting and integrating external stimuli received through the
senses - Cole (2005)

Many scholars claim that managers can implement TQM in any organization in any sector of the
economy such as manufacturing, service, education, and government (Dean & Bowen, 1994)

People perceive the world in terms of their least satisfying needs and that their perceptions tend
to recognize goals that will satisfy their needs - Graham (1998)

Perception can therefore greatly differ from reality based on an individual’s characteristics.
Robin (1996) is of the view that interpretation of what one sees is heavily influenced by
personal characteristics.
• Leadership

• Strong commitment from the top management is vital in quality management and
leads to higher quality performance (Saraph, J V; Benson, P G; Schroeder, R G;
1889). Senior management acts as a driver of TQM implementation, establishing
values, goals, and systems to satisfy customers’ needs and expectations and
improve organizational performance (Ahire, Golhar, & Waller, 1996).

• The ability of top management to establish a practice and lead a long-term vision
for the firm is driven by changing customer requirements. According to (Juran &
Gryna, 1993)

Supply quality management system

• Supplier quality is an important element of quality management in the
organization because materials and purchased parts are a major source of quality
problems (Kaynak, 2003; Flynn et al., 1994).
Customer focus
• As customer expectations are dynamic, an organization needs to survey customer expectations
regularly and modify its operations accordingly (Ahire, Golhar, & Waller, 1996).
• The consumer is the most important part of the production line, Quality should be aimed at the
needs of the consumer, present and future” (Prize, 2011)
• An organization must identify Customer relationships to Measure customer needs and
expectations; involve customers in quality improvement; determine customer satisfaction (Sila &
Ebrahimpour, 2005)

Employee engagement and training.

• Total quality management systems always successfully implemented depending on the

collaboration and coordination among a firm’s workforce (Ho, Duffy, & Shih, 1999)
• Training sessions also help employees to look upon the bigger picture and help in bringing change
into the organization (Phillips, 2012).
Quality planning.
• Many organizations currently invest in quality improvement Programs. However, the literature has

revealed that many companies felt that the quality improvement Programs had fallen short of

their expectations and that these programs were not generating the anticipated improvements

(Lam, 1997)

Quality policy.
• policy and strategy should be practiced by developing key processes, an appropriate human resources policy

and management, and by establishing alliances. Likewise, Samson and Terziovski (1999)
