Slump Test

Apparatus
CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS AND
TESTING
Slump Test Apparatus
used to measure the consistency and workability of fresh concrete, and
indirectly, the water/cement ratio of the concrete mix. Concrete slump test
is carried out from batch to batch to check the uniform quality of concrete
during construction. The slump test is the most simple workability test for
concrete, involves low cost and provides immediate results. Due to this fact,
it has been widely used for workability tests since 1922.

What are the Slump
Test Apparatus?

Slump Test Sets
offer convenience and assurance that testing
can be readily performed in accordance with
ASTM and AASHTO standards. Standard sets
include a slump cone, base, and tamping rod.
Deluxe sets also include a scoop, funnel,
measuring tape, and cleaning brush.

Slump Cones
are constructed of rugged plated steel or
high-density plastic and meet ASTM and
AASHTO or BS standards. Plastic and
steel slump cones are rust-resistant and
available in inch or metric dimensions.
They can be secured by standing on the
integral foot tabs or clamped in the
slump test base for additional stability.

Tamping Rods

0.374x18in (15.9x610mm,
9.5x305mm, or 9.5x457mm)
Dia. xL sizes are machined from
solid stainless steel and will not
corrode. Both ends have

Slump Test Bases
come in models constructed of EZ-
Clean high-density polyethylene or
cast aluminum, equipped with a
carrying handle, and offer a smooth
and stable working platform for both
plastic or steel slump cones.

K-Slump Tester
is used to quickly determine the approximate
concrete slump and workability. The tester is
inserted into the concrete up to the level of the
disc. After 40 seconds, the measuring rod is
lowered until it rests on the surface of the
concrete that entered the tester. The K-Slump
value is then read on the graduated scale. The
tester is removed, and the workability value is
read on the scale at the height of concrete
retained in the tester. Readings are reliable

the tester. Instructions and correlation charts

Aluminum Scoops are easy to
handle for remixing the bulk
sample and dispensing a
representative sample of fresh
concrete into slump cones.

Scrub Brushes
are useful for easy clean-up of all
concrete testing equipment.

Tape Measures
are the most accurate and
efficient way to measure slumps
and serve a number of other
purposes.

Procedure
Why we do Slump Test?
• The main reason to perform the test is to ensure batches of the same
concrete are of constant quality and strength. The more water is added to
a mix, the weaker the concrete gets.

• The concrete slump test measures the consistency of fresh concrete before

it sets. It is performed to check the workability of freshly made concrete,
and therefore the ease with which concrete flows.

• A concrete slump test is one of the ways to check the quality and
suitability of a mix, by ensuring the water to cement ratio is correct.

slump test will also provide the opportunity to
identify any defects and amend them before the concrete is poured.
