INTRODUCTION TO ARTS
AND ITS SOCIAL FUNCTIONS
“Fine Arts” are kinds of art created primarily for aesthetic enjoyment and
intellectual purposes judged primarily for its beauty and meaningfulness. It is
more focused in form rather than function.
This kind of art includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, graphics, architecture etc.
“Utilitarian Art” is a kind of art that is made primarily with a primary function.
It is a kind of art designed to be more useful than be attractive. It is more
focused in function rather than in form.

Fishery Art

It is the changing or raw materials for human consumption or use.
Civic Art
It refers to the civic planning and beautification in order to improve the
standards of living.
Commercial Art
Arts that were created for business propaganda in the form of
advertisements.
Business Art
Art that refers to the techniques and styles that make business, bookkeeping,
typewriting, stenography, salesmanship, and even business administration
better.
Agricultural Art
Arts that aids for a better production in agronomy and other components of
agriculture. It also includes the modification of form of horticulture related
products for a better reproduction and utilization.
Fishery Art
Art related to deep – shallow fishing, modification of such components for a
better production in fishery related field.
Medical Art
Art that depicts the anatomy of an organism body for a better understanding of
medical science, surgery and pathology.
Art in this sense is communication; it allows people from different cultures and
different times to communicate with each other via images, sounds and stories.
Art is often a vehicle for social change. It can give voice to the politically or
socially disenfranchised.
Art forces humans to look beyond that which is necessary to survive and leads
people to create for the sake of expression and meaning.
Arts have its definite function. It serves its own function for its viewers, for the
author, as well as community.
Must art communicate?
Why or why should not art communicate?
Arts serves physical functions to make the life of human beings and members of
the society better and productive. In addition to this, physical functions of arts
can be categorized into two:
a) Container
b) Tools
