• It is a creation made by the GDR (East Germany) to stop
migration of its population because of the freedom that the east
side provides.
• It was built on August 13, 1961 and destroyed nearly three
decades later on November 9, 1989
• The east side was occupied by the Russian allies while the west
was occupied by USA, Britain and France.
THE BERLIN WALL
WE ARE ONLY STRONG AS WE ARE UNITED,
AS WEAK AS WE DEVIDED ~J.K ROWLING

The date was 12 of August 1961.Tension between the two sided of

Germany was high. The allied forces tried to convince the sovites to unite
into one nation. The soviets however did not agree to this idea. They
stuck with their beliefs that a nation must be a communist nation to
achieve equality. The GDR did not want its citizens to escape and flee to
west Germany to get better lives. They wanted their citizen to stay in. On
the night of august 12th the east or GDR started to construct a wall that
will keep its citizens in. the wall will later know as the berlin wall. the
walls towered 3 meters high and extended 45 km through Berlin and
extended a further 120 km around West Berlin.
Before the Wall's erection 3.5 million East Germans manage to
circumvented the East bloc emigration restriction by a legal loophole
that the four allied powers signed. Most that emigrated was The GDR’s
young and educated individuals. The loophole made it possible to defect
from east Germany to west Germany by walking an imaginary border.
During this time the government plotted to build a wall to kept the
citizens of east Germany inside. Many families and relatives was
separated due to these walls. Many have tried to defect during these
times and only 5000 out of 100.000 were successful.
