GEOMETRY
 The word geometry comes from Greek word
“geo” which means Earth

and “metria” meaning measure


or “to measure the Earth”.

 Geometry is a branch of Mathematics concerned


with questions of the shape, size, relative
position of figures and the properties of shape.
 It is considered as one of the oldest branches of
mathematics.

Even though this terms are left undefined, they used


together with ordinary words to define other geometric
terms.
Point
 A point is a location in space. It has no:
size
length

width
thickness dimension

It could be represented by a dot (period).

A grain of a sand represent a point.


Point
 A point is named using a capital letter.

Examples:

It is read as point A and Point

Line
O A line is a set of points that extends infinitely in both
directions. Arrowheads are used in both ends to signify
infinity. Line is represented by a small italicized letter,
but can also be identified by two points that are on the
line.

It is read as line m and line CD or line DC


Plane
 A plane is represented by any flat surface and the
points on it extend infinitely in all directions. It has
length, width but no thickness. .
It is usually represented in drawings by a four-
sided figure. Plane is named by single cursive
uppercase letter or four capital letters.

It is read as plane P and Plane ABCD.
