EVIDENCE OF THE

RESURRECTION

(JESUS RESURRECTION)
BACKGROUND OF THE
STUDY
WHO IS JESUS?

• Matthew 16:13-16
• 13 Jesus went to the territory near the town of Caesarea
Philippi, where he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the
Son of Man is?”
• 14 “Some say John the Baptist,” they answered. “Others say
Elijah, while others say Jeremiah or some other prophet.”
• 15 “What about you?” he asked them. “Who do you say I am?”
• 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the
living God.”
WHO IS JESUS?

• Jesus (also called Christ which means king or Messiah) was

born in Israel 2000 years ago. Modern civilization marks his
birth by dividing time B.C. (before Christ) and A.D. (Anno
Domini - or the year of our Lord).
• He is the central figure of Christianity. Christians believe he is
the incarnation of God the Son and the awaited Messiah (
Christ) prophesied in the Old Testament.
PROPHET ISAIAH FORETOLD THE BIRTH
OF JESUS CHRIST
• Well then, the Lord himself will give you a sign: a young
woman who is pregnant will have a son and will name him
‘Immanuel.’ Isaiah 7:14
• A child is born to us! A son is given to us! And he will be our
ruler. He will be called, “Wonderful Counselor,” “Mighty
God,” “Eternal Father,” “Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
WHAT IS RESURRECTION?

• Resurrection is the concept of coming back to life after death.

In a number of ancient religions, a dying-and-rising god is a
deity which dies and resurrects. The death and
resurrection of Jesus, an example of resurrection, is the central
focus of Christianity.
4 HISTORICAL FACTS ABOUT JESUS’
RESURRECTION:

1. Jesus of Nazareth was given a proper burial following His

crucifixion by Joseph of Arimathea.
2. Jesus’ tomb was discovered by a group of His female
followers on the Sunday morning after His crucifixion.
3. Various individuals and groups experienced appearances of
Jesus alive after His death.
4. The original disciples suddenly and sincerely came to believe
that God raised Jesus from the dead.
B. PROOF OF THE RESURRECTION

Scriptural References:
He is not here; he has been raised, just as he said. Come here and
see the place where he was lying. Matthew 28:6
“Don't be alarmed,” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus of
Nazareth, who was crucified. He is not here—he has been raised!
Look, here is the place where he was placed. Mark 16:6
B. PROOF OF THE RESURRECTION

• The number of the witnesses to the resurrection was many.

The weight of their testimony is quite conclusive.
• Both friends and enemies testified to the resurrection of
Christ: the women, the disciples, the angels, and the Roman
guards.
C. PERSONAL PROOF OF THE
RESURRECTION
•All the proof that we need of the resurrection is the fact that
Jesus Christ saves sinners, heals sick bodies, and abides within
the hearts of His saints today. He not only has appeared to Saul
of Tarsus on the
•Damascus road, but to each of His blood washed children on
their respective roads. The reality of the resurrection is proven
by the reality of His living presence today.
