◦Political self explores how social and economic
contexts profoundly affect our mental health and
well-being, and how modern neuroscientific and
psychodynamic research can both contribute to
our understanding of these wider discussions.

Politics (from Greek: Πολιτικά, politiká, 'affairs
of the cities')
How can people be influenced
by others?
they are the people who studied and analyzed the
motives of social influence and determine the two
types of it.

TWO TYPES OF INFLUENCE
Normative influence
A type of social influence that is based on confirming the positive
expectation of others.

Informational influence
A type of influence based on accepting the information obtained from
others as evidence of reality.
DEVELOPING A FILIPINO IDENTITY/
WHO IS A FILIPNO?
The Philippines today has only emerge in the 1980s after over three
centuries colonization of the Spaniards. Meanwhile, the Japanese only
occurred in 1946. foreign culture, beliefs, language, and religion have
made a huge dent on our own by setting a foundation to the contemporary
Filipino identity and culture. Filipino have truly developed an identity of
their own? Or we still living in the shadow of our colonial friends.
The individual's race ethnicity and physical characteristic are not the
only factors that make a person national identity. The importance of
values and traits are set apart and nationality from the other. These
values and traits may not always be a positive thing, but being able to
identify oneself apart from other nationalities and point out
weaknesses and mistakes paired with unity and progress is a
possibility.
According to the 1987 Philippine constitution,
Filipino citizens are "those whose father or mother are
citizens of the Philippines those born before January
17, 1973, of Filipino, mother who elects Philippine
citizenship upon reaching the age of majority and
those who are naturalized in accordance with law".
FILIPINO VALUES AND TRAITS
WHAT DO FILIPINO VALUE?
The term kapwa or a shared inner self lies at the core of Filipino
values and psychology. A person who treats another as a kapwa has
shared a sense of identity and consciousness with that 'other' person.
Both at the individual and community level, strong emphasis is
placed on social acceptance and maintaining social harmony. As such,
social approval is caring about what others will think, say, or do
strongly influence social behavior.
UTANG-NA-LOOB
It is a technique of reciprocity of debt of gratitude to others within
the family circle or primary group, sometimes unlimited in nature,
emotional rather than financial or rational.
It is a sign of a marginal economy where no place is available in
bargaining, formal agreements, written in contacts, specific rights,
and responsibilities.
2. PAKIKISAMA
Closely to utang na loob
It is the value of belongingness and loyalty to the smell in a
group with sensitivity to the feelings of others on the
principle of "give and take."
Is a folk concept of good public relations and avoidance of
conflict with the leader or majority of the group.
3. HIYA
Control to a large extent the behavior of the
individual.
Dependent on what others will think, say, and do.
Because of hiya, a Filipino cannot say "NO" even if
it is against his will to do what is requested.
BAYANIHAN
What is Bayanihan in Filipino values?

In the Philippines, the Bayanihan spirit is one


of communal unity, helping others without
expecting rewards, to achieve a certain goal. In
earlier days, when houses were made of lighter
materials such as coconut leaves, Bayanihan
also meant helping one's neighbors move their
house
4. BAHALA NA!
A common expression among Filipino and this rest
on a fatalistic outlook and strong dependence on the
"spirits" who will take care of everything if they are
really meant for a person.
5. Authoritarianism

It is the dependence of the Filipino on a paternalistic rather than a stern


way up on the elders of the family, up underboss, if employed, end up on
people and authority as their father figure.
Commonly practiced in the Filipino family which is basically patriarchal
in nature.
The father is seen as the head that makes major decisions affecting the
family.
6. Individualism

The pattern of behavior characterized the Filipino as self-


centered.

The desire to make the name for himself because of the


primary motivation for success.
8. Amor- Propio

Individuals have highly emotional reactions to protect their honor and


dignity when they are treated or questioned and to retaliate.

A common form of this is "hele hele bago quiere" or pakipot which


shows a person initially refusing an offer even if you want very much
to accept it

PAGMAMANO
“Pagmamano” is a Filipino
gesture often done by young
people to the elders as a sign of
respect. This is done by gently
striking the elder's right hand to
the young's forehead.
